I've come to a similar conclusion as well. I'm approaching 40 yrs old and closing in on 20 years in I.T. and I'm fast becoming the "Why won't this just work?" guy.
The best thing I did was to buy my parents iPads several years ago. My required home tech support plummeted. They were happy and I didn't have to fix something every time I visited. But now, even iOS is getting more and more half-baked features which can be a bug fest. Throw in something like two-factor and it's nearly impossible for an average non-tech person to make this stuff work and stay semi-secure.
Software is getting extremely complex and it seems very few devs even think about UX or UI or the average Joe anymore.
At least that's my take on it.
